Rectifier/Regulator burnt on 150 mariner!

Did an inspection and noticed the top rectifier was burned up on my 96 150 mariner. The bottom rectifier looks to be getting hot too the solder in the circuit is melting. I just want to know if the rectifiers just go bad or could their be something causing them to go bad like the stator. I did a resistance check on the stator and its within limits. The coil windings look good too nothing burnt or discolored. Id hate to replace the rectifiers and them burn up again.

Usally a rectifier goes bad from a voltage surge, a loose or dirty connection can cause it, however the merc rectifiers fail quite often like that we use CDI replacements with no more problems.

I find the bullet connectors are marginal. I usually replace the connectors with a soldered splice. I solder the stator and plus wires. The tach wire is OK.

hope it helps

Ok, Thanks. Ill try the CDI rectifiers and also check the connections.
