Ok its that time of year to register boats, not sure how other states do it but here in washington all registered boats expire June 30th, no matter when you buy itm or renew it.

I get my notice in the mail and glances and saw the fee was 25.25 not bad i can handle that. But here is the break down ugh, yet we still have a weed problem at most lakes.

3.00 Filing fee
10.50 license fee (to actually license the boat)
5.00 Water Craft excise tax
0.75 License Service fee (supports computer systems)
1.50 Aquatic Invasive Species Fee
1.00 Aquatic Algea Fee
0.50 Aquatic Invasice Species Enforcement Fee
3.00 Derelict Vessel Removal Fee

Total 25.25 and they want me to donate to the Historic Ship Foundation on top of that.

Anyone elses state this bad for license fees. Mines an older boat if you have a newer one its more they base the fees on year except the filing fee, computer fee.

My trailer actually costs more than the boat to register, the tax on the trailer besides the excise, license fee is it as an aquatic weed tax too.

that is cheap, and if you have to complain about a little tax, why are you boating.

Ohio is also broken down into length. The tag/sticker is good for 3 years. Mine costs me 65 for a 3 year period. Guess that is a good deal so far. Change expected soon do doubt.

The trailer has to be registered every year. I use my trailer twice a year. Once to launch in the spring and the second time to haul out in the fall.

by no means am i complaining i was just surprised at the extra amount of added taxes altho there not excessivly high yet, i was just curious if other states tax on a lot of extras too. The reason mines cheap is my boat is 24 years old. Washington bases there fees on vessel age.

In Missouri, we relicense boats every three years. The cost Trailers every year I guess, I don't own one.

OBs are licensed only upon purchase. That costs $2.00 + processing fee of $3.50.

Boat registration fees vary according to length
Length of Boat/Vessel Fees Processing Fee
Under 16 feet $25 $3.50
16 feet but less than 26 feet $55 $3.50
26 feet but less than 40 feet $100 $3.50
40 feet and over $150 $3.50

It's about $25 in MD for two years.
Another $50 if you want a fishing sticker for the boat.
I'm glad they don't break it down, doubtful they could actually audit the funding.

Re: Boat License Tags

its $18 or so for the boat every three years here in MN with lifetime tag for the trailer, not bad at all if you ask me.

However.... yearly tabs on my truck are a killer. based on value and add to that I have the Critical habitat plates so I donate $30 to the DNR plus a $10 fee for donating every year.

Re: Boat License Tags

Wow sounds like were one of the cheaper states to register in and, one of the more expensive to those that can get the registration for 3 years. I wish we had permanent trailer plates though, just only on the semi trailers. Our vehicles used to be astronomicaly high to tab them, we had a Subaru Legacy and it was over $400/year to register. Then an inititive passed making all vehicle tabs 30 bucks, while it lowered the majority of vehicles it raised the older ones which would have been only 10-20 to register. Now the state has found new taxes to regain the revenue from vehicles, $30 base fee, then an RTA Tax, just recently a gross weight tax, which brought our new ecplise up to 100 bucks and my old truck to $66 bucks. The truck they have it in there system as a 1/2 ton 5k gross so it lowerd my taxes, I never told them the weights. The truck is a 3/4 ton 8k gross and weighs close to 5k. The eclipse they have at 8k gross
