I have a 1985 Bayliner Capri with an 85 hp Force. I need to replace the prop and the manual that came with the boat shows it as 13 x 19p. A friend of mine suggested that I go with a 17 pitch. Does anyone have any experience with how much difference this makes. Is it a good suggestion? The props I have looked at also don't appear to come in the 13 diameter, only 13 1/4 and up. Would this still be ok? Just got this boat and don't know much about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

If you would tell us how many RPM you are getting out of it now and the manufacturer of the prop as well as the model of the prop, the diameter and pitch and the speed of the boat, hopefully by GPS we can definitely help. Normally it would be better to have the 13" diameter versus the 13 1/4", unless your boat is heavy with people and gear. Look at the Capacity plate and give us that information. it will help. You also don't mention what length it is.

I have an 85 hp on a 15ft mfb caprice and I run a 13X17 and it is almost dead on for the upper rpm range with just me in the boat.

What do you mean by almost dead in the uppper RPM range Tim.

I mean that it is at about 5400 rpm with just me in it 5500 is the upper rpm. You want to be as close to that as possible without over revving.
