i just bought a 1992 cajun bass boat with a 92 88spl johnson outboard...the problem i am having with it is when go to give it max power....the boat speeds up to maybe 10mph....sits there for like 2-3 min then will gradually but quick pick up to max speed...the previous owner had brought it into a cple dif places to have it looked at...one replaced the fuel lines....same prob...the other cleaned out the carbs good...seemed to run good for a bit but went back to its own ways...whenever u slow back down and try to speed back up...takes 2-3 min before it kicks up and goes. looking for some advice besides getting a new motor...thanx

Have you tried pumping the fuel bulb when its lagging?
Have you checked the ignition linkage isn't binding when the throttle is opened.

possible dirty high speed jets, also above^^. are you sure you are not carrying excess baggage, as in wet foam? do you trim all the way down when you take off, then trim out?

yea i have pumped the bulb and it does not do anything...the boat is clean i just got done redoing the carpet etc and checked out the foam as well as when i got back in from the lake...like i said earlier when i slow down then try to speed back up it just sits at like 10mph for about 3 min the gets up to speed again.

check spark plugs for water,if so you have a bad head gasket. next buy fuel pump.if it is a head gasket just 10 bolts, not to bad, just be careful its all aluminum.
