Another tach newbie

Have a Faria TC9864 model tach that I picked up and was told it will work on my 1978 Evinrude 35hp. Problem is I can't figure out how to wire it and set it up. The Faria web site wasn't much help.

It has 3 poles; SIG, GRD and BAT. along with a terminal for a light. The grd and bat are obvious but where and how do I pick up the Signal? It also has a switch for the Poles Set which I kind of understand and did find a ref. on Faria web site.

I am using a control box that has the small 3 pin connector next to the start wire cable. Can I use that? If so how hard is it to find the male end for that connector?

as far as the control box, no, unless your signal for your tach from the motor runs into it. look at the wiring diagram for your motor. if I remember correct the wire is gray. Give me the model # of your engine and I will look it up for you.

The Rude # is 35852R and this motor has a black plug not the red plug and if I remember correctly only has 5 wires.

it is a gray wire, look by your power pack for a grey wire, hot wire it there to test, should work fine.

Thanks for the help! Haven't forgot to respond it's just that the weather turned nasty again up here in Wisconsin and between that and work just haven't had the time to get out and work through this. But it's finally above 40 deg. again and I can get back to it and can't wait! Heck ice has been out for a month already.

Hello again!

Finally got back to this and am unable to find a grey wire. I see one that looks like a white with black stripe
Anyone able to point me in a direction to look?
