Hello all, I took my boat to the lake yesterday to make sure that everything was working . The motor started & idled just fine. started out across the lake & when I gave it gas, the front end of the boat went straight up in the air, I tried to use the tilt/trim to plane it back down but it just seemed like nothing was happening & the more gas I gave it the more the front end wanted to go up , Any suggestions as to what might be going on..?

trim all the way down, until the bow drops what year and kind of boat? model # and year of motor? are you sure there was not any water in the bilge? was this the first run of the season? new or old gas? did you winterize in the fall?

Re: evinrude 150 won't plane

The boat is: 1989 BassTracker 1800fs, motor is 1983 Evinrude 150hp, (E150TRLCTE). Got the boat from my dad & the motor I just got a few weeks ago from another person who said it was maintained. It was the first run of the season since I just got the motor put on & had to get a relay box for the tilt/trim & install it. It did have some water in the boat from me not sealing the bolts,(I did that as soon as I got home). I don't know if any of it was winterized. The motor seems to run fine , I just can't get it to set the front end of the boat down.

you never want to get water in your transom, seal every bolt/screw that goes in there.

You may just have too much weight back there, too much motor , what is you boat rated for?

Try getting more weight up front too.

does the engine have enough power to get on plane? or is it bogging down?

I did go & seal everything when I got home, The boat is rated up to a 150hp. It does seem to be a little heavy on the back with the motor & 3 batteries & everything else that is back there. The motor seems to have plenty of power, does not seem to be bogging down.

try getting 2 batteries up front, and just moving anything possible from back to front.

And get all water out.

You may have wet foam in the back, holding water.

Bob, before doing any thing, check the compression and spark on all cylinders, post your result here. adjustable spark tester sold at any auto parts store. set it at 1/2 inch. it should jump this gap and be bright blue. compression over 100 psi within 10 % of each other.

if all of this is good, new gas, clean and rebuild carbs, see TOP SECRET thread.
