Can you cut into the slot deeper...or square it off and use a bigger screwdriver?

try a center punch or nail set on the corner of the slot and try tapping it around (counter clockwise)

Second on the Impact wrench. Works better if the lower unit is removed and put on the bench, so you're banging down instead of sideways.
Use an EZ out at your own risk. More than likely it will just break off, then you'll be shopping for a new lower end.

I,m going to drill a hole in the middle of the screw than jam a screwdriver into that hole and twist it off. I,ve had it with this old fart

A Dremmel (spelling?) tool with an abrasive disk should be able to cut a better slot.

If you drill through the screw, I would then treat the lower unit as if it had metal filings in it. Flush it out totally with a proper lube pump, as a minimum.

I am going to ask you a silly question, but are you using the nylon washers together with the drain & fill screws? If not, you will get water intrusion, plus the screws may be seated too deeply as a result, causing them to get stuck.

Agree with the small chisel and/or punch & hammer. lightly tap the screw around counter-clock wise. it will come out, might take a lil time though. a lil patience will go a long way.

Dremel tool with cutting disc to make a new slot, followed by an impact driver. Much less cursing involved if you go this route...

I agree with the drift and hammer on the outer edge of what used to be the slot. I had one that was a big V, from getting stripped over and over...I just put a punch on the outer edge and tapped it around...it is very easy to do.....

then you can buy a new drain plug....or take a hack way and push the slot down, and or myabe a small square file and clean up and square up the slot....so you have a nice edge to drive against with you screw driver...from then on uise a thick slotted screw driver

Thank you everone for your thoughts on this problem.. I got it out today. I drilled a small hole and placed a hex bit into it and off it came.. And yes the plastic washer was missing on both screws..
