Double and triple check everything make sure all is hooked up corectly stop after 25 or 30 miles and check make sure evey thing is stll good, trailer tires are not over heating boat is still straped down good, and all saftey chains are in place, then be sure to check everytime you stop for anything

Before you leave check the grease in the hubs. Be sure you have the tools and a spare hub/tire and grease. Check your load at every stop. Other than that drive safely and enjoy your trip. :D

You need to make sure the tow vehicle is in good mechanical shape too. Each time you stop for gas check the hubs on the trailer to see if they are hot. Make sure you have all the paper work for the boat. Just in case you are stopped. Registration for boat and trailer.

Re: Long haul

everytime I pull a trailer, no matter the distance and I stop for any reason I always double check everything. coupler, chains, lights plugged in, all straps, any gear inside the boat and grab each hub to make sure they arent hot.

I dont know how many times I have stopped and grabbed a tie down strap only to find whatever was on my trailer had moved or settled and the strap was a little loose.

I also make it a habit of filling up for gas after the boat and truck are loaded. that gives you a mile or so to let things move around before you recheck.

What everyone said so far.... do a complete walk around your rig every time you stop and also keep the driver's side window cracked open so you can hear any noises that are out of the ordinary that may crop up.

Check and make sure your spare tire is inflated. That is probaly one of the most overlooked items even on automobiles. It is bad to have a flat and THEN learn your spare is flat too.

I used to have a lot of fun at Lake George as a kid.

We'd camp on the islands.

Have fun.

I haul all around South Florida and the one thing I do before every trip is check the tow vehicle's tires' air pressure and the trailer tires' air pressure. Blow those bad boys up to max inflation.

In addition, drive no faster than the speed limit - and perhaps a little under the speed limit.
