Ok i am wondering if i can use this gear lube. It was in the boat section. The label says,

Quicksilver Marine Lubricants
High Performance Gear Lube

Engineered for maecury, mercruiser sterndrives and provides increased protection for outboard lower units. "Marine grade lubricant"

Can I use this on a 1999 Volvo GXI Dp-sm ? It was $10 per quart.

Re: I Bought Walmart Gear Lube

The place I used to work was both a Volvo and Mercruiser dealer. I always used the Merc Hi Perfomance in my Volvo drive. I suppose you want to know the reason I did.
The Volvo lube (GL-5 Synthetic) works great, but if you get water in the drive, it seperates and leaves your lower gears and bearings in water only. I didn't like that. The Merc Hi Performance also meets the GL-5 Spec, but it also mixes with the oil and water together (should water get in the drive) and keeps everything lubed and not setting in straight water. Since we were a Volvo dealer, I always recommended the VP lube for drives to our customers. Just used something different for myself.
I also boated exclusively in salt water and kept the boat in the water all summer.
