hooking up a trim switch

i am trying to hook up a trim switch and i dont know how to hook it up and the book is not helping me. the wires the book says to hook up has only two wires to the switch and thats the one i have on, but the switch wont move, then i have another two wires that is just lose??? does the switch needs a pos and neg to work?

You should have a 4 wire harness. Green (down) Blue (up) Purple (limited up) and Red (power)

yes i do have 4 wires and the book says to hook up the blue and purple wires to the switch.. so do i have to conn all 4 to the switch?

its a 1981 17 ft renken with a i/o mercruiser 120... forgot to say that in my remote i only have a trim up and down button i dont have the push type one well i am going to take a pic now to show what i am talking about brb

if you can see the is a black button next to the shifter and i think in the middel of the shifter there is another one anyone knows what that is?
