Hey all, new member. G/f has a '94 Sea Nymph, hasn't been run in about 4 years, had milkshake in the lower unit last time out. Will be replacing seals/impellers and interior on a very tight budget

Well we finally hauled the boat over to the house. It's nothing special, just a 16.5' aluminum V-hull with a Johnson 50hp on the back. G/f bought it new about 15 years ago.

Needs some work, the motor needs the carbs rebuilt and new seals on the lower end (changing impeller when I do that).

The wood floor needs to be replaced and carpeting redone. This is where my questions start. This is being done on a very strict budget. What is the best plywood to get? Is marine ply worth it and how much more expensive is it? Where do you even find marine ply? Same question pretty much for carpet. Just get a cheap indoor/outdoor carpet or marine?

The dashboard is in really rough shape. Can you find replacement dashes? I've entertained the idea of repairing this one with glass or building a new one out of glassed MDF but getting a new one would certainly be easier

Nice boat - simple and gets the job done, and that 50 ought to get you to the fishing holes quick and cheap!

Just fix the console - new ones are expensive, non-structural fiberglass repair is easy and cheap.

The floor doesn't have to be marine treated. Exterior grade works too, both need to be sealed up with something.

unless you want carpet i would go with a non-skid/slip paint surface. High grade exterior ply will work fine, just be sure to seal it as said above

Doing some looking around at boat supply websites/catalogs I'm really interested in the vinyl or roll-on rubberized non-skid coatings

Yeah exterior grade plywood and your all set just decide on the finish and make sure you seal the plywood real good. Good luck with the project.

Hey There!
I'm going to fix the floors in my boat this weekend, and have already picked out the carpet.(Lowes is the best I have found, including local Ma and Pa stores) I have done this a few times, and if You are planning on replacing the plywood, plan on replacing stringers also. You mentioned a tight budget, so be prepared. There are "quick" fixes you can do, but they are "band-aids".
I bought my 1978 20' i/o (small block Chevy 350) 2 months ago, and she has a soft spot in the starboard side(rear, 1'x2'). May band-aid it, maybe not. Depends on the test run how much I will invest..
Good Luck!

Regular 3/4 extrior ply is fine just seal it good with somehting like Thompsons water seal.

Our boats are laid out differently but I am pretty sure it is the same basic hull, I get about 28-30 mph out of mine with my 50, I have an '81 Sea-Nymph.

To replace the floor you need to gut the baot which means drilling alot of rivets, on mine I just replaced them with stainless bolts and lock washers with some 3M 5200 and it has worked out well.

On mine the floor was screwed down with regular steel screws so I had to dig a pair of vise grips in and rip the head off then go back and cut off all the screws, sort of a pain but got the job done.

Redid a buddies boat woth the outdoor carpet from Menards and it has held up really well it is easy to work with and affordable.

mountainmariner has a glass boat, you don't need to replace your stringers on an aluminum, just check for lose rivets with the floor off and replace any you find that are lose, other than that nothing to do below the plywood.

Plan on fixxing your console, if you can find one new it will be a budget buster.

Also check your transom, it is alot easier to replace now, you should be able to stand on the motor without the transom moving more than a 1/4'' or so, if it is more than that conisder replacing.
Good luck and keep the pics coming.

The exterior of that boat is immaculate. When you're finished with the interior it will look like new. Looks like a great fishing set-up and I think you'll be surprised how well it moves with the 50HP.
