I bought a 13' gls whaler 89'. Took it out for the first time and the engine trim gets stuck in the down position. The motor sounds like its working, But I hear an awful grinding sound or a loud screech. I'm not sure what I need to do about this. IF anyone could give some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Smile

Photos, type of motor and once it is up will it go down O.K. Will it stay in the up position for an hour or so without creeping down ???

Loosen the manual release valve (screw) you may need an impact driver and hammer to get it moving, $20 from sears.

Its usually on the port side of the bracket.
Use a flashlight and look very carefully , sometimes its not obvious, mine is set back inside a pocket. Unscrew it to the stop.

Raise the leg, engage the support and check fluid.
Close the valve and try cycling it as few times in case its just an air pocket, cycling is how you bleed the system. Valve has to be closed TIGHT to work.

Re: Help Engine Trim Stuck down!

Thank you all for your responses. I've drained the fluid and was able to get the engine up. I'm going to replace the trim motor. Can anyone give a quick run down on that procedure? Do you typically remove the engine from the mount to do this?
