First let me say this is a great site and it is nice to see people donating their time to help others. O k here go's I own a 2001 150 HPDI VZ 150TLRZ THis winter I tryied to fix two poublems 1) my tach was not working it turned out to be a broken wire where the main harness enters the engine. My cousin is an electritian and he opened up the harness fixed the wire and a couple others seeled it back up and pushed the harness a couple of inches inside the engine and all seemed to work fine. 2) My oil light was on with no alarm it turned out to be the float sensor inside the oil tank in the boat. the sensor inside the toob move slightly upword (proubly due to high waves on lake Erie) when it was at the top of its range (it only had about a 1/2 inch range then it hit a "C" clip) the light would be on and off at the bottom. We simply removed the clip understanding that my light will come on when I am almost out of oil and turn off when I'm out.

Now this year my oil tank inside the motor will not fill on it's own, my alarm works when it is empty and the override switch works to manually fill it. So far we have tested the float and got continuity in three spots bottom, slightly up from there and at the top. So I feel that it is fine but do not know what to test next.

Thanks for your time

Re: 150 vmax oil proublem

I hope we got it, I have ground comeing into the float switch on the black and no ground comeing out of the switch on the black/red. I then used jumper leads to power the pump and bypass the switch (connected black and black/red together) thinking this would make everthing work. Turned on the key and power switch and nothing. Does the boat have to be running for the pump to work?

The key needs to be on, remote tank should be 1/2 full, engine tank float at mid point or lower; pump should turn on.

To perform the 180 second oil transfer test,

Make sure the remote tank is at least 1/2 full, with the key on and engine off cut the tie strap and carefully remove the water trap from the engine tank, drain the tank into a container until the alarm sounds then re-attach the water trap.
at this point you should have an audible,3 bars flashing and the oil transfer pump on.
the engine tank should refill and shutoff in 180 seconds or less.
anything longer than 180 seconds means there is either a restriction or low transfer pump voltage

the engine tank switch can be tested with an ohm meter.
float up blue/white is closed turning the pump off, float at mid point blue/green should close turning the pump on, float down the blue red will close sounding the audible and placing the CDI in RPM reduction.
if you remove the engine float/screen assy always do it with the tank drained and always retrieve and replace the foam seal.

Re: 150 vmax oil proublem

We did it slightly different The key was on, the remote tank 3/4 full with the engine tank completely empty. The alarm came on as soon as the key was on but no pump so I used the override switch to fill the tank untill the alarm turned off and still no pump. I'll try your way tonight

You mentiond low voltage when we put a volt meter on the plug running to the engine oil tank we got 12 volts on 2 wires and 4 volts on one (should of wrote the colours down) could this be part of the proublem?

Thanks

you did not answer what cousinabe asked, at least he/she reads what I post :).
with the engine tank empty and the remote at least 1/2 full what indication do you have on your tach?
and if you have removed the filter screen assy without draining the engine tank first any trash in the tank is now in the oil pump.
at a minimum retrieve the old seal and ALWAYS replace it.
all 47 cents worth.
you can see the remote oil tank has enough for automatic transfer, can the ECU?

Re: 150 vmax oil proublem

I performed the test the way you asked cousinabe and the alarm came on but no pump I then turned the key off and back on and the alarm came on the pump came on and filled up to the top line and stoped. now here is the wired stuff. I decided to run the test again with the same reults this time I used the override switch to fill up the tank untill the alam turned off I then unpluged the float to test for continuity and the alarm came back on and the pump came on I pluged it back in and the alarm turned off but the pump continued to run untill it hit the top bar and then shut off.

Rodbolt thanks for responding I have a Lund Pro V with a dial tack the only lights I have are a Temp and oil light under the key and sence I have overrided the float in the remote tank (new one will be here Monday) my Temperature light is on. They both come on when you turn on the key and usually turn off after 2 or 3 seconds but now my Temp light stays on. and yes I did empty the oil tank first.

Thanks for all your help Guys/Gals
