1985 19 ft wellcraft with 140 Mercruiser, I am going to try to keep this brief, I purchased the boat for $50,0 boat was siezed I was able to break it loose and ran it last year at the end of the season it was blowing oil, and had water in the oil. pulled engine cracked cylander bought replacement 140 on ebay had to change exhaust manifold and carb from blown engine to make it work, during all this being the retard i am, I decieded to rebuild the carb . Now have it all together and been out 4 or 5 times running good, good idle , but when i go to WOT I only achieve 3700 rpm and about 26mph with last engine running on 3 cylanders I did 35mph and Wot 4800 + the problem is I cant figure out how to check my carb to see if it is doing all it should, I have about 3 inches of travel on the control that does nothing for acceleration hope this makes sense, thanks in advance

There are many reasons for not being able to reach full WOT.

Fortunately there is a sticky at the top that is titled "adults only" Inside there is a link for low WOT that lists everything you need to check.

You can also download the FSM for your engine and drive - it will save you a little aspirin.
