Has anyone converted, say, a late 80s Bass Tracker TX 17 to an open sled?

Older aluminum bass boats are quite a bit cheaper in my part of the country than equivalent sized but more recent jon boats with similar hull construction. Can I just buy one of these older Bass Trackers and rip out the fishing decks in front and back and have a nice open sled for about 2-3000 less than one of the newer jon boats of the same length? Or do these late 80s aluminum bass boats depend on those fishing decks for hull integrity?

included are a couple of pictures of such a late 80s Bass Tracker.

Yes the decks support the sides and are important. Strip it out and it will get floppy on you.

BT's are already an open sled...just higher decks, IMHO.
