Gas Tank clogging up

When I open up the throttle to plane the engine starts cutting out and eventually stalls. It runs fine at lower speeds and I have hooked up an auxillary gas tank and it works fine so it's not in the engine. I've narrowed it to junk in the gas tank that gets sucked into the outlet or the gas line collapsing from too much suction. Any ideas? Approximately 20 year old Mako 23.

Re: Gas Tank clogging up

could be several things, anti-siphon valve, bad fuel, bad fuel line, clogged filter, you'll have to go thru the steps checking these things.

You will have to systematically go through it. Checking for venting and blockages.

I just went through that same drill w/my 1989 Seacraft 23WA. If you remove the fuel sender from the tank and use a flashlight you will be able to see inside the tank, especially if the tank is low on fuel. I had a whole lot of junk in my tank. The fuel filter is probably filled by now and plugged up. First thing is to change the filter. I am in the process of changing out the fuel tank. Also ended up w/ a leak and had soaked foam from the gas.
