I'm buying a SeaRay 210BR (3500 towing weight) and have a Sienna 2004 w/ 3500 towing capacity. Anybody got experience with this close of a match?

I have the small hitch that is sold by toyota, which I will upgrade.

I will be keeping the boat at the marina and just using the sienna to launch (would use another vehicle if I travel or move the boat any distance).

Will this work? Anything else I need in addition to the new hitch?

Thanks!

If your just using the sienna to launch your fine.... over the road your pushing the button......does the 3,500 include the trailer gear and gas??? even if its over you will be fine for launching, thats about it.

I'm buying a SeaRay 210BR (3500 towing weight)...

I HIGHLY doubt that that boat/trailer combo weighs 3500lbs. More like 4700.

In any case, not a good idea to tow it with a Sienna.

That Sienna will be fine for launching, now retrieving, depending on how steep the ramp is, you might not be able to pull it out.

I agree with a previous poster on the combined weight of boat/trailer/fuel. It probably exceeds 3500 lbs. I have an 04 Sienna that I use to tow a 17 ft openbow with an 85hp OB, but thats like comparing apples to oranges. My rig complete weighs less than 2500. Personally, I wouldn't risk towing what your suggesting with the Sienna. Pulling that amount weight out of the water would be dicey at best!

Yep....that Sienna is front wheel drive. With the combined weight of the boat and the heavy tongue weight you could get yourself in a sticky situation at the wrong ramp. Anything with more than a gradual slope could find you with limited traction.

I was not factoring in the trailer and gas - guessing the towing weight would be more like 4900 which is way over 3500. Think I need to look for a cheap truck.

Boat is listed as approximately 3700 lbs. Probably going to be a bit much...:D

Re: 2004 Sienna towing a SeaRay 210 BR

I tow 3500 lbs of boat/trailer/33 gals gas/gear long distances with a lesser than Toyota minivan with the same capacity. Specifically it is a front wheel drive 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette with 120,000 miles. The steapness of the ramp has no effect whatso ever. Engines with minimal hp and torque can accomplish a lot more than people realize since suv's and trucks advertise such high numbers. You and others would likely be suprised at what a minivan could actually tow if safety and damage weren' concerns. Also minivans weigh just under what midsized, truck based suv's do but again I don't think many folks realize how robust minivans are. It is only the slipperyness and lack of four wheel drive that causes issues for me. That said, that combo is way too much for a car based van. I wouldn't tow that even short distances and risk damaging expensive drive components. After towing half a season last year with a minivan, they just aren't practical for towing heavy/robustly built boats such as a Sea Ray. I tow two snowmobiles long distances in the winter maybe 1500ish lbs with trailer and that is perfect for a van. I would suggest a truck or at least a midsized suv. More than half my stress with boating is worrying whether the van will make it there and if the ramp will be too slippery.

;) thats the ticket.......I still think the sienna would help you out in a pinch for launching and retreiving..."but"..the cheap truck/suv idea sounds better....

Safety and damage are pretty big concerns when towing a boat, though.
