Good Morning Guys!
Pouring rain here, hope you are dry.

Silly Questions that I didn't find an answer for in the forum search.

This is my first season with an ancient 1976 235 HP OMC Stringer.
I want to change the upper and lower gear oil. I plan to purchase a hand pump from West Marine today (around the corner from me) WM# 3704673
"http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/82006/377%20710%201679/712/oil/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/Most%20Popular%7C1?N=377%20710%201679&Ne=712&Ntt=oil&Ntk=Primary%20Search&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=Most%20Popular|1&keyword=oil&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=6&subdeptNum=169&classNum=170"

Does anyone know if this fitting is the same fitting used on the out drive?

Also, my manuals call for OMC type C gear oil. And there is a caption that 90W should not be used. The only gear oils that I have found so far IS 90W.

Am I missing something?
Thanks Fellas

Does anyone know about this fitting? Or know the correct one?

The threads for the drain and fill plug i assume? I think they are the same as the lube pump kit sold at Walmart and many other places...

Re: OMC Gear Oil

The manual calls for Type C in both the upper, lower gear cases and intermediate housing. In reality you can use the less expensive 75w-90 marine or synthetic lubes in the upper and intermediate housings. They are virtually identical to the upper and IH's of the later hydromechanical drives which uses the 75w-90 oil.

Re: OMC Gear Oil

Thank you to all.

Just got back from doing lube job. Boat is in water, and where I moor her, the closest boat ramps are only accessable with the high tide.

Pulled her up did lube job, and dropped her back in.

FYI- The West Marine lower unit oil pump above is the correct threads for the old OMC's.

If I type in "type c" in most store search engines, it doesn't recognize the C as a word, and doesn't include it in the search. Also, I found with stores I had to type in " type "C" lube " and NOT (type c gear oil ). Found it in several stores including West Marine.

That is why I couldn't find the above thread about Type C.

Thanks Again
