Greetings,

I just purchased a Montgomery Ward 1970 Sea King that cam with a Scott-Atwater (1955) 5hp Model 3755 Bail-a-matic. Almost all of the operating directions on the cowling have faded away. This is my first outboard motor and don't have a clue as to where to start. Is it possible to find an owners manual for this model?

There should be one up on Ebay but I am sure someone well chime in and help you out with what ever you need to know about running the engine. The one thing you well definitely want to do before attempting to start the engine is to go through it and check everything first. You well want to check that it has spark, replace the plugs and clean and regap the points. Clean out the carb. Check out the lower unit to make sure it has lube in it and also that there is no water getting in there. Also you well want to check the impeller because if it is shot you well kill your motor very quickly because it well overheat. Once you have gone through it all, it should be ready to go and run like a champ.

Never seen owners manuals for those little Scotts, but haven't looked that hard. You can get a 1946-56 Scott service manual for all models at www.acmeoutboards.com
Those are nice little motors when you get them cleaned up and running. Parts can be dicey at times.
