fuel connector fuel leak

I have a 1955 15 HP evinrude outboard. It has the original fuel supply system (pressurized tank). When I disconnect the fuel hose from the engine fuel leaks from the engine connector. Is the engine connector suppose to have a built in check valve to prevent this problem?
Does anyone know where I can purchase a new connector, if that's the problem. Also, is a kit of some kind available that wiil convert this system to the new single hose system with a fuel pump?
My computer will be down for a few days, so if I don't respond immediately to questions, I'm sorry, but I will respond. Thank you! shebe3

Re: fuel connector fuel leak

Howdy, Shebe.

You have a couple of options.

The "O" rings in the fuel connectors are replaceable. That usually fixes leaks at the connectors.

You can convert to a fuel pump and single hose system. Check out the Engine FAQs Forum for details.

Good luck. :)

one more, not real convenient, but you can connect hoses directly to the motor, by passing the connector.

JB, Are the o'rings located in the part of the connector that is mounted to the engine or in the part of the connector attached to the hose? The fuel only leaks out of the engine mounted part of the connector after the hose is disconnected. Shebe3

Re: fuel connector fuel leak

that is normal, there is not a check valve in there.
