Oil leaking from SX drive

Gentlemen (I don't know if any ladies are on the forum; haven't seen any posts from any so far)...
I changed the oil in my SX drive last night. When it reached the upper fill port, i closed that port and the dip stick port. When I pulled the fill fitting out of the bottom plug, about 2 OZ of clear water came out before the first drop of oil. I replaced the plug and then noticed new oil leaking from between the prop and the lower gear housing...
Am i looking at a DIY repair? Or should i take it to the dealer for a lower gear assembly rebuild? From what i could see from the lower gear diagrams, there appears to be a seal in front of the bearing...could this be worn and leaking? I assume that it would also cause water intrusion as well?
Thank you in advance for any assistance. I've been scouring the forum for the last couple of days for advice on many other issues. I feel much more enlightened than just reading the service manuals.

Did you remove the prop to see if there is any fishing string wraped around the shaft?

No, but if that is a probable cause, then I'll do it when I get home. Thank you for the suggestion. Has it happened to you before?

Re: Oil leaking from SX drive

I pulled the prop the other day and didn't have anything more than a little seaweed in behind there. It sounds like I need to take the drive in to have the lower end seals replaced. I would be inclined to try it myself, but it looks like a few specialty tools are needed to pull the bearings. I don't have those laying around, so i'll take it to the mechanic.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
