Re: CMC Trim & Tilt - Transom Stress
When I had my '76 fiberglass tri-hull, I thought about putting one on and the first thing the salesman asked me was the condition of transom. He told me that your transom has to be very solid to handle the extra stress from the unit.
Sounds like your transom is all rotten out and needs to be replaced, hence the bowing and bending while trimming the unit. Would hate to see you out in the middle of the lake and the transom cracks and you start taking in lots of water. Pretty scary, trust me, I know from experience. Luckily my little 300gph bilge pump was brand new and working good or I may have never made it back into dock. Water was at the floor level by the time I got back to the dock! (After i replaced the transom, I installed a 1500 gph pump before i went back out again)
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. You should be able to check the condition of the transom by tapping it with a hammer. Should hear a crisp rap, a thud means rot. But then again, I am not familiar with your type boat so this would only apply to a fiberglass boat. Just sharing my experience for what it's worth!
Hope the best for you! Hate to being working on the boat during the season instead of using it!
