1978 evinrude problem

hi,i have a evinrude 1978 115hp. i need a new starter the model number is 115893c. 10 tooth.do i have to used this model or can i replaced it with a different model?:confused:

you need to use the correct starter, but there are different places that you can get it. I would recommend checking at your local Napa auto parts. They offer a great line of marine parts. Here is the page from there catalog of the starters that would work for your motor. The ones starting with the #18 are the ones that you can order dirrectly from Napa auto parts. Here is there link

Excuse me for interrupting, but you may be about to waste some bux.

Why do you need a new starter? What is wrong with it? 60% of starters that are replaced didn't need replacing. They simply needed the wiring cleaned up.

A starter that really is bad can be rebuilt by an automotive starter shop for a small fraction of the cost of a new starter, and it will be the correct starter for that engine.
