Need to replace lower unit on my 5.8L cobra. found a 5.0L cobra lower unit, is it compatable?

Check the gear ratio. It could be different. Otherwise, it's the same drive.

I think the ratio for those engines were the same some years. 1.43:1 comes to mind.

It will work fine though. You may need to put a slightly "taller" prop on it though. Run it first. then try different props. You can find (good even SS) props on ebay all day long.

Just wondering,Who made a 5.8 motor? Ford 351?

Hold on, what year?????????? Model number is even better.
Don't forget that OMC liked to name all kinds of dfferent drives Cobra and King Cobra.
