1978 70hp johnson short

just fired up the old johnson, got it running ok but it doesn't shut off with the key. it also shocks the crap outta me like i was holding on to a coil wire if i touch the boat and block.

i was hoping someone has had a similar problem or a link to wiring diagrams.

anything that might help will be appreciated.

You've got an open ground somewhere. The kill circuit is:

Black wire from powerhead to powerpack, black/yellow wire to raised "M" terminal of ignition switch, black wire from other regular "M" terminal of ignition switch to ground.

there is some corrosion on the grounds but all seem to test fine, is there one that might be the most likely

maybe the coil grounds?

Did you remove and clean those connections, then retighten?

Does your engine now shut off with the key?

won't get around to that until tomorrow, but i'll clean all the corrosion, i think

it got wet with saltwater at the end of last season

do you think a plug wire arcing to the block could cause me to get shocked, or is that related to a bad ground
