'89 135 Black Max.

Compression is 125 in all 6 Cylinders. Tested for spark and there is good spark on all 6 Cylinders as well. When I pulled the spark plugs they looked fine on the ends. There was a little bit or black residue from oil / gas. Nothing out of the ordinary. Fuel line seems to be fine - no kinks, spongy line, etc.

Idles fine and revs up when hooked up to water hose. As soon as I shift into gear at the lake the engine starts sputtering and barely goes. This is a new engine to me so where should I start looking?

Thanks for the help in advance. Please let me know if more info is needed.

Re: 135 Black Max - No Power Under Load

It could very well be that the carbs idle mixture is too lean. These motor need a lean mixture to idle real well, but will then stumble when you try to accelerate. Do you think the PO messed with them, or cleaned the carbs himslef?

Alternatively, the carbs could be gummed up. I think your motor may have NLA floats, so be careful if you take the carbs apart. You might check idle pickup timing to make sure it is within spec.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll look into it.

Glad to see a familiar name over here Cell. This is the motor that is going to power the Sidewinder if I can figure this problem out.

Well... $400 later, it was the stator.

After searching high and low I couldn't find a fuel problem (becasue there obviously was not one) so I took it to the mechanic to figure out for me.

Got that re&re'd and everything should be good to go for the weekend!
