Can some one tell me how to remove the coil plate on a 18 hp fastwin. I need to take the power head apart and wanted to keep the coils, points and condinsers all together. The plate is loose and slides up and down about 1/8 inch, but I could not see how it comes apart. Thanks

Are you talking about the armature plate? If it is like my other 50's and 60's motors, there should be four screws that keep the plate on the power head. Two of them secure the plate directly. Two of them are one of the screws on each coil. I could be wrong, but I am assuming the motors made from 50's and 60's are similar in this respect.

Yes sir that is it, and I have backed off the four screws that you refered to, but something is still holding it. I'll get back to it in a day or two, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

two of those screws are longer and need to be taken all the way out. Then it should just lift off.

Thanks, I was getting tired last night and didn't want to tear up anything due to being frustrated. I want to leave it as intact as possible so it will be easier to reassemble. Thanks Again!

Yes, it's just those 4 philips head screws. Take them right out. The points do keep some pressure on the crank but other than that it should pull right off.

Taking the plate off is the easy part... Popping the flywheel off is always the tougher part...
