finally got the back seam welded to my rowboat and went out for a short spin.
I was kind've wondered that an 8hp xtralong shaft wouldnt be too good good old johnson 1993 never let me down even after sitting for roughly 3 years while the old sailboat sat in the yard since we bought a boat with an inboard.. With 2 people motor and gear close to 400+ lbs she planed quickly and nicely. we did make a hugee wake before we planed. im just waiting on the parts in the mail to convert it to short shaft. Will i get alot of extra speed? or just reduced drag/smaller wake

Your boat will get on plane faster and go faster with a short shaft.

4 pieces of 3" angle iron (or aluminum) will help solve the engine mounting w/o having to spend all that money on the shaft change.

It will raise to motor to a more acceptable depth and give you more speed. It is a tiller steer so controls will not be changed just raised.

we plan on using the motor for an inflatable v-bottom dinghy so thats why we paid for the conversion
its cheaper than buying a new used 4stroke 5hp engine
