If anyone can help, I got a this motor from a good buddy but now he died. It overheats at wot, i replaced poppet valve and impellor kit. It seems to overheat sooner afte valve so i took some shim out(teflon washer) to make it open sooner, didn;t matter, it still heats quicker then the old one which was slightly tore. I have blown everything out, it looks good. Oh it has t-stat restrictors in it, and one was pretty clogged. I can idle all day, heats when i open it up and i cant find a clog?????

THANX

Re: 87 black max overheating issues

I have changed t stats, new poppet, whole pump kit. I have got it much cooler sealed up the water tube. I can run 3000 rpms and it doesn't beeeeppp, but i had to take t stats out and had to cut a coil of the poppet just to get that today. Here in central florida on the east coast wind blowing bad in the intracoastal, to much to open it up to see if it heats up @ WOT. Hve a water pressure gauge but not operable at this moment(soon). I just got this motor and it had a new impellor in it, (I replaced anyway) I am concerned broken pieces are in the head. I have blown vacuumed, there is almost no salt crystaling, but it ran much cooler with no t stats.?????? oh by the way the motor flat HAULS ASSS, just can't keep it there without getting beat to death! sEEMS A PLUG SOMEWHERE??

This motor isnow all the way fixed. Culprit was the wrong gasket underneath the impellor baseplate. And a pinhole was sealed up on the starboard side in the casting underneath the impellor

Get that water pressure gauge fixed. It'll save you a lot of grief, and maybe a piston or two.
