I need help regarding af strange problem regarding my mercury engine, there are no problems i starting and sailing but after 10-15 sec in full speed the alarm sounds !! it keeps doing that until i pull the throttle a little bit back - stil sailing at max speed - then the alarm stops :) and everything is ok - then i give max throttle again and the alarm sounds again ?? there are lots of water coming out of the engine and the exhaust i ok. Do the engine have at alarm if the rpm gets to high ? or could it be the heat sensor ?

A steady alarm means it's running hot.How old is the impeller? It might be worn enough that at high speed it isn't pumping enough water(vanes in the impeller bent or wore out).J

Thank you Jerryjerry05 - the engine is from 2006 and have not been used in 2008 at all. do you have any idea to how i could check the impeller, is it possible to do so yourselves ? Should i try to clean the pipes with high pressure water ?

The only way to check the impeller is to remove the lower unit and disasemble the pump.Look on this site for R@R water pumps.
High pressure water won't do anything.J

I have an 2004 60HP four stroke Merc and the same thing happened; the water temperature guage was indicating temperatures all over the place. Replaced the water temp sensor and problem was fixed. I also noticed that the wiring harness contacts were corroded; you can try cleaning them also.
