I have a 86 Seasprit 17ft with a 4.3 OMC. The guy I bouhgt it from put a Edelbrock performer manifold and a Holley 4160 carb (600cfm) on it. The carb needs to be rebuilt, so Im not sure how it will run. Is this good or bad? If bad, why? I nave heard that I should have a marine carb. Whats the diff?::confused:

Hey, Welcome! Unless I'm mistaken, I believe the Holley 4160 IS a marine carb. It's been discussed in many posts here. If you use the search button, you should find some info on it.

4160 doesn't explain enough, that typically just means you don't have a secondary metering block.

Have you looked up the actual part number on the carb? I think it's on the air horn somewhere.

FWIW I have a 4160-style 4bbl on my 4.3, it runs awesome. No issues.

The list # on the carb is 1850-3. From looking on the holley web site I don't think it is a marine carb. Can I still use it? I dont have the funds to buy a new carb. Is there a diff in marine manifolds as to automotive?

Marine carb is an ABSOLUTE MUST, auto carbs cause explosions!

As for the manifold, the performer is a great choice for marine use, it builds power from idle to 5500, right where you need it. If you have a closed cooling system, or only boat in fresh water then you are good to go. If you are in a saltwater environment, then the aluminum manifold will not last very long.

Is there any thing I can do to the carb to make it marine worthy? Like putting J style vent tubes. From what I can tell from Holleys web site vent tubes and power valve blow out protection looks to be the diff.

Get an actual marine carb and sell this one.

No worrying, no issues with "yeah it's a X carb but I modified it so you need a Y kit" stuff to worry about in the future.

Holley released a number of "4160" style carbs over the years. All 4160 means is it's 600cfm and you don't have a secondary metering block. Whether it's marine or not is based on the part number.

Look at your carb, if it has these J tubes, it's marine. if not, it's automotive.
