i have a 1997 20' bayliner trophy model 2002 its a cuddy cabin net boat weight is 2866lb it has a 1998 mercury 225 efi offshore on it the prop is a mirage plus 15" pitch and i think its a 15" diameter. i took it out today for the first time since i put the new moter on and i think it could use a different pitch prop. i had about 800lbs in it with people trolling moter and gear top speed was about 46 or so according to the boat speedometer rpms were at 5800 but im not shure my tach is correct when i was running wot and pulled back on the throttle i heard the moter rpms drop but the tach didnt come down it took it a little bit to come down so i think i may have been overreving and the tach was maxed out. i dont know much about props so i need a little help figuring out what prop to get. i would like to get some more top end the hole shot now is insane but i need more top end. so what pitch 3 blade or 4 blade what size diameter and what brand i was thinking stainless steel in a 21" pitch. what do you all think?

You probably should have the tach varified.
Not an expert but it seems to me you need a lot more prop,
At least a 19" pitch. I'm sure the experts will be along with more specific advice.

Yep, verify the tach. The rev limiter on the motor won't let it go to 8000.

Re: what pitch prop do i need?

so my tach was screwed i put a good one in it and now im sure im over reving the moter. so where should i start should i get a 19" and start there or should i just go for the 21" pitch and see what happens. it defanetly needs more prop it only takes about 5 seconds to go from 3or4mph to 46mph. also what setting should my tach be on? right know its on setting 4.

I would go with the 19 if it turns out a little light you can still use it and just
watch the throttle. You'll have a base line to work with.If you need to move up. If the 21 is too much you should use it as little as possible and get a replacement in a timely fashion.
