I just got a screaming deal on a 77 27'Bayliner Victoria with a Chev 350 and V/P outdrive. It is my first Fiberglass boat I have always had bigger steel boats. My question is upon further inspection I have found (Wet) rot in the forward cabin of the salon and also port and stb. in the engine room hatch.... Is this fixable???

Re: New boat ROT!!!

Of course its fixable, but you're in the beginning stages of a restore.. After you finish your initial survey you're probably asking yourself WTF you got yourself into. We've all been there.

You've got three options - fix her, part her out and junk her, or try and flip her to someone else. More than likely you'll need a full stringer/deck and possibly transom repair. It's more time consuming than it is hard.

Take your time, do your research, get familiar with the 'search' feature of the forums, and read the sticky at the top of this page.

And take some pics so we can all see what you're working with.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess the first step is to get her home and open her up and see exactly how deep the rot is.

Yup.. Get an awl or screwdriver and poke around EVERYWHERE - behind and underneath seats, center of the floor, cuddy, etc. Take some core samples of the deck, stringers, and transom. Do a complete survey and you can develop a plan of attack.
