I have a 1961 johnson 75 that will idle but if i put it in gear and give it any gas it sputters and dies out. It will run better if i 3/4 choke it any ideas.

made carb adjustments and still not working. Rebuild carb or fuel pump or both.

Rebuild carb or at least thoroughly clean it. Could be as simple as a plugged high speed jet or orifice. Like Tasha wrote, fuel starvation. Fuel is not getting through your carb. Clean it like a surgeon.

As was stated, clean up the carb. I do not know if a new float is avail for that model. However, those old cork floats were pretty good, if the brass holder was solid. Make sure the brass holder is not twisted, where it pivots. You want the float to sit parallel with the top of the bowl. C/o the low speed needles for nicks and other damage. If you have these issues, it will be hard to adjust the idle mixture.

If the cork float is saturated it won't float properly and the main jet won't close. You would have flooding but this thread is about fuel starvation.
