squirts/drips gas

1993 6 hp evinrude long shaft - drips or squirts gas from coupling when ball is pumped; ball never gets hard. engine starts but dies after pumped gas runs out. changed hose end with clip and coupling thinking that was the problem. thanks

sounds like you have an aftermarket hose and coupling. or the orings are bad. leaking air, punp cannot pull fuel. there are several connectors that look alike, but are not for Johnson Evinrudes. suzuki, yamaha, have very similar connectors.

you can either get the correct fitting, or eliminate the connection, and run straight to the fuel pump.

Delete the fitting out of the equation and run direct. If this works then get a new and correct fitting or leave it direct.
