on my 87 bayliner I have a kill switch on the dash, just left of the steering column. It is a button style, and the lanyard pushes straight over it and allows the engine to run. It broke this weekend, and I am having a hard time finding just the lanyard part for it...all i can find is the newer 2 prong jetski style ones. all i need is the lanyard with the button fitting on it, right now its rigged up with a ziptie...quick launch ramp fix lol.

Sooo...does anyone know where i can get the older OMC style push button lanyard?

Wouldn't it be easier to just get a different switch altogether? Seems like a reasonable way to help future-proof a dying parts support system.

For a quick fix till you get a new lanyard, just disconnect the 2 wires from the switch and hook them together.

Whole new kill switch with lanyard is under $20.

i have thought about this.....i was just wondering if i could buy a new lanyard by itself first...if not then i will definitely replace the whole switch with something that is more common these days. does anyone know the style im referring to, or know where i might get a lanyard for it? maybe i should just switch to the jetski style.

I might get flamed for this, but...there has been no lanyard to it for a while, just the button that broke off the lanyard for the past 4 years. then the button finally broke this weekend. out of 3 boats, this is the first one that has a lanyard on it. what are the lanyard requirements now? i assume i dont want to remove it all together for safety reasons, but i havent had them on any other boats we had.

Go to any marine store, or even hear at iboats. Those lanyards and clips of differnt type are readily available. Like keys, get spares.

The one that fits omc outboard kill switches on the box is 432230 or Sierra MP28880. I'm pretty sure you can replace the one that looked like a "cap" that held the button in with that. If it's not that then MP40980 is probably the one you want.

okay i picked up a kill switch lanyard with an assortment of attachments on it. that should do the trick. once its on, it doesnt ever really get removed so I should be good to go now. also, West Marine by me is having a sale, got a telescoping boat hook for 50% off!
