Just purchased my first fishing boat. Its a 1988 15ft Winner, with a 1995 Johson 70hp outboard. I know a little about engines (jsut enough to make me dangerous). The boat runs great when first started. After I get back from tooling around the lake and let it sit for an hour on the dock it wont start back up. It floods so easy. I dont even prime it or use the choke. if it doesnt start on the very first try it floods. Gas just drips out of the bowl under the carbs. I have to let it sit for a couple of hours before it will start again. I do know where the choke is on the top part of the control box, but obviously the engine is getting primed to much. I also realize there is a squeze ball for the engine (which I dont touch because its already getting way to much gas). There is also a flat black control knob under the key on the back of the control box (dont know what it does). Those are the only controls. I figured the engine is getting to much priming from somewhere. I know the engine is fine, I am just doing something wrong.
No owners manual availible. Can someone please help. Thanks

it really sounds like the float needles is sticking, not stopping the flow of fuel. you motor does not have a choke is has a --

Primer Solenoid
the primer replaced the old choke butterflies in the carborators, pushing in the key activates it, like the old choke plates, but injects fuel directly into the intake.
The red handle is used when your battery is dead, and you have to rope start. You move the handle 180 degrees.
Normal operating position is with the handle back over the body of the solenoid, like in the picture below.

After reading your reply, I think I know what's happening. I think I am pushing the key in everytime I start it, which primes the engine, flooding it. O
After the first time starting it I'm not going to push the key in. I am going to camp this weekend and run it. See if that works. I will let you no. Thanks for the for your help.

I used the boat all weekend no issues , I was priming it to much by pushing the key in, didn't realize this was priming the engine (not familiar w engine)
Thanks again for your advice
