I have been restoring a 56 evinrude big twin 30 and I'm having trouble getting the tank to pressure up. I have air coming out of the air line but i don't know how much air should be coming out should it have alot of pressure or little. The motor runs great as long as i keep manually pumping the tank. If anyone can tell me where to start it would be greatly appreciated. The lines arn't leaking any air so i thought maybe it is the tank. I would really like to keep with the two line tank. i have been restoring an old boat and the motor came with the boat so I'd like to keep it orig.

Air goes into the air line (from the motor), but shouldn't come out. It could be as simple as the O-rings in the connector. I'd check those and replace them. Then see if the tank pressurizes. If not, you need the rebuild kit.

I have the same problem with my QD-13. I had rebuilt the tank and it was still not pressurizing. Pulled the air hose off and it felt like it was both blowing and sucking. I pulled the carb back off and found a tear in the rubber valve on the leaf plate that supplies the pressure. Have a replacement on order.

Re: Vintage Pressure tank Problems. HELP!!

Just be careful removing it. If it is like the one on my QD-13 it is held on by two screws. Underneath there are two tiny collars (washer like) that slide over the screws to hold it at the correct height. They are not held and and will fall off and roll away if you are not careful. Don't ask me how I know.
