Hey folks.

At the end of last season the engine overheated on the last 2 runs of the season. The engine was not running well in general.Since then, I Changed the water pump, themostats, Rebuilt carbs, new wires and plugs and new VRO. Compression is 140 across all 4 cylinders.

I took it for a shake down cruise the other day. Engine is running better! Althought it is still overheating at cruising speed. I am stumped. Could it be timing? I was told I have a piston slap. Could that be causing the overheating problem.?

You may have a blockage somewhere. Did you check the stats are opening at the correct temperature ?? Have you flushed out the cooling system ??

I did a full flush. How do I know the stats are opening up at the right temp?

Take them out, jug of hot water and a meat thermometer. You should see them start to open when the water is around the 140 degree mark and be fully open by around 160 degrees.

Somone mentioned that there is a "Poppet Valve" that gets clogged. I can't find it on the diagram. Any help?
