motor starts easy idles ok,but bogs down and wants to stall when throttle is opened, back throttle down a little and you can hear engine speed slowly pick up and kicks dangerously into full throttle but only for about a min. or two,and then bogs again...is there a filter screen on vro pump? does this sound like carb work is needed?
and what is the white plastic container on VRO pump?
compression is good on all three cylinders, good spark, and new hose and tank..

I just went through the same thing on a 1990 115. I cleaned my carbs and found a bad connection on one of my coils. That fixed my problem.Has your motor been sitting up for a while?

motor runs great in driveway with muffs on,in the lake she bogs down like she is starved for fuel.......
the linkage seems a little screwy on adjustable cables, are they supposed to have some play in them???i can slide cable end about 1/2 inch ,would this have anything to do with link and sync i hear about on this site??guess ill park it and have a look at the carbs,is there any jets or whatnot i can clean without taking the carbs off/? any checks while running i can perform?? i tried the tap the bowl trick,it did nothing...

Re: 1985 70 hp VRO Help Please

today i removed the vro pump was easy to remove only three bolts held it to bracket, found that the two plastic clamps that attach vacuum hose were both cracked, also one cracked on fuel line, anyhow i replaced them with some good used hose clamps and ditched the white plastic gizmo, that i guess may be some anti-siphon gadget.. she fired up and ran excellent (as usual on muffs in driveway)off to the river i went anticipating a 30+ mph cruise..
well, she fired up easily, and as i advanced throttle ,it bogged right down...and eventually revved up planed out reached 26 mph on gps and then bog down, repeat about three times..so tomorrow the carbs are coming off..
as you may have noticed this is my private posting, and i only allowed one comment:p
oh well it may be all the motor mechanics are tired of hearing about the same old motor bogs down posts..
i have a three pack of carbs from a johnson 60 hp in my shop ...
so gonna try cleaning and or swapping ....

Rebuild the carbs. Check fuel pump output.

Re: 1985 70 hp VRO Help Please

just want to update this post, today i narrowed the problem down to the bottom carb,pre-mix squirted into carb did the trick, rpm's picked up while squirting mix to the point of remaining constant and smooth without mix..
YIPPEE!!!!
