Trailer lights not working right

this should be really easy, but im having a brain fart

Braking-trailer lights go off

why would this happen? do i have a wire switched around?

i currently dont recall if the lights are always on like they should be....

Yup easy. Check and clean grounds on trailer and vehicle. A ground through the ball is not a sufficiant ground. With the lights on and then hit the brakes, thats max load and if the ground cant handle it they shut off.

haha thanks guys. the guy who i bought the boat and trailer from was an idiot ill redo his work.

Good Luck and let us all know about the bad ground !!!!
The others mentioned could be a contributing factor as well but I'm sticking with the bad ground thing right now.

i actually had to redo one of the grounds because it was all messed up.

on the console itself, the guy actually spliced in colors for some reason, but the wires he spliced in are opposite of the original wires (connected a green wire to a black, and a black to a green)
so this wouldnt really surprise me.
