Another problem with the Mercury 115!! No spark?

Got up real early to head down to the boat this morning,Well it didnt start..First i thought i flooded it..But that has never happened!! So i pulled a couple plugs to check for spark.. No spark!! Checked the kill switch it looks fine,but the strange thing was if i hold the connectors on back of the kill switch and try to turn it over it shocks me!! Is that normal? What should i check or replace first to get spark again?

Ohh and its a 87 merc 115!!

I was just looking in my seloc also and it doesnt really help me.. I was readinga couple old posts and they say to disconnect some wires,but anyone could give me some more info it would be great!!

The boat ran like a champ last week.We got HEAVY rains since then and had alot of water in the boat..Donno if all the water had somthing to do with it!!!

Disconnect the yellow/black wires at the power packs, retest for spark ...

Just beware those wires are used to STOP the engine, but if you got spark now you should check the kill switch circuit and stop wire from the ignition switch.

Got the troubleshooting guide from CDI here ( PDF file ) read and do your tests

Thanks Arne, is the wire yellow and black or are they yellow wires and also black wires? Also would you know why if i hold the connectors at the kill switch it would shock me? It almost felt like a shock that you would get from holding a spark plug when trying to fire it over!!

I am guessing that the kill wire ( yellow/black wire ) needs to discharge the switch box to ground to kill the spark, but it should not be anything like the output from a coil ...

Yeah it gives you a shock, Thought that was strange, didnt know if it was normal,Should i still go ahead and disconnect the yellow/black wires even if the kill switch wires are giveing me a shock like that? Is there anything more i should try? I have to drive 1hr 1/2 to the boat.. If you can give me some more tricks to try it would be great..!!

TTT, My work pc wont allow me to acces that link to the troubleshooting guide, What is the site?..Also if anyone can give me some more things to try id be very thankful.. Would moisture screw somthing up? We had 3 days of very heavy rain!!

The one I linked to are located on my home page, but you can find it on it original site too...Go to CDI electronics , look under "Manuals and Guides" click on "Troubleshooting Guide" to open the guide.

On my site you could try "save as", and open it locally on your computer...

And yes moisture were it's not supposed to be can be troublesome... you could try some CRC 6-36 or other, inside connectors and switches ( kill + ignition )

Thanks Arne, I am going to take a fresh batt down this week and take off the black/yellow wires and give that a shot!! If thats not it i am thinking its the trigger!!

Droll or anyone? Should i also disconnect the idle stabalizer? I dont even know what it looks like or where it is!!But i was just reading to disconnect that???

Well i went down to the boat yesterday to give it another try..Took the black/yellow wires off!! Still now spark!! Soo i just check every wire i could see!! cleaned some connections and cleaned the motor!! Took the cover off around the fly wheel and checked it out under there.. Put it back to together and she started right up!!! I dont get it!!! I know the trigger needs to be replaced the wires are very britt..

I think you found your problem,the damp weather likely shorted out the wire to the trigger,or you had a loose connection elsewhere.
