I've got a 15 hp Gamefisher model number 217-586361. I believe that makes it an Eska model. But anyways having some problems with it running and I'm doing some trouble shooting. Where is the fuel pump located? I can't figure it out, I believe it's like a little red tube looking thing, but I have no idea where it is. I'm under the impression it could be bad? Anyone know where I can find it?

Fuel pump is a seperate assembly roughly rectangular with a hose barb for the pulse port connection and a threaded fuel outlet for fuel out on what appears to be the base. There is a fuel in hose barb on what appears to be the cover. If you trace the fuel line from the hose quick connector you should see it.
The little red tube thing is in the carb on the single cylinder motors.

Re: 15 hp gamefisher fuel pump?

On those Eska-based 15hp outboards, the fuel pump is a red rubberish bladder that fits into the carburetor on the flange of the carb. It needs to be installed with the narrow slot at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock.

It works with the crankcase pressure pulses, and in combination with a little pair of flapper valves between the fuel connector and carb.

It's a very simple design, but everything has to be just right for it to work. It also will have a hard time pumping if the tank is too low in the boat.

If you replace the pump element, you should also replace the flapper valve, which comes as part of a carb kit or can be purchases separately.

Parts can be obtained by calling the phone number at www.certifiedpartscorp.com.

So it's inside the carb? Could I see it looking through the front of it to the back? I can't find it. Although I only took the bowl off and was inside the bottom of it...

You have to remove the carburetor. It's on the back of the flange that holds the carb on the engine. The flapper valve gasket is under the fuel inlet.

You should be able to find a service manual for that engine on ebay. Sounds like you need one.

My after market manual indicates the type 380 engine uses the red bladder it is in the mounting flange of the carb. Type 381uses a seperate pump as described. The red bladder needs to be installed at a 45 degree angle approximately 10 oclock and 8 oclock.

Re: 15 hp gamefisher fuel pump?

Well, I removed the carb, and found the fuel pump element located on the back of the carb. I pulled it out and inspected it, and there is a crack around one side of it on the base part where it would lie flush with the back of the carb. It appears it's a deep enough crack where it would meet with the inside of the fuel pump element (the hole that runs inside the red rubber piece). I ordered a new one, and the flange gasket. Would that be enough to affect performance, or possibly make it so it wouldn't want to run correctly? (I've had problems getting it to run right, or even run at all...)

Anything that penetrates the bladder will cause the pump not to work. A new element will probably fix it up. However, you should also replace the little flapper valve gasket under the fuel intake body. If that's bad, you still won't have a working outboard. It's a common piece to fail, too.
