Synthetic 2 stroke old for old motors?

I have just bought a 1989 Merc 45hp (Classic 50). I don't know much about mercs except that they used to say to only use Merc 2 cycle oil. I assume that the previous owner was using regular merc 2-cycle oil.

I've used synthetic 2 cycle oil in some of my other equipment and it burns clean and the engines seem to last longer. Can I use synthetic in this Merc?

ya its ok to use sythetic. it smokes less and seems to make plugs last longer plus its more expensive


if u dont use sythetic 2 stroke marine oil merc evinrude dont really matter unless its under warrenty. use twc-3 oil.

its fine just watch ur wallet
