Is the cowling blue/white metal or ugly blue/white fibreglass?

ugly blue and white fibreglass. Seriously thinking of throwing it away. It seems to be not worth the bother.

Those 'breadboxes' sure are ugly. It was the first year of the fibreglass hood. They are great running engines when running properly. Why do you need a new carb, usually just a cleaning and adjusting will do it.

not sure if someone has put on a different carb as the one on there now only has a slow speed adjustment no high speed. Not sure if this carb will work is why I wanted a new carb with both adjustments. I have had the carb that is on this engine cleaned by a shop but they could not get it running smoothly. Runs at med to high throttle in gear but the minute you go to slow it down it stalls..

If the air supply line to the pressurized tank leaks, will the engine keep running at med to high throttle but stall when it is cutback to idle speed. I am in the process of thinking of bypassing the connection and going directly to carb and fuel line. It leaks at the connection where engine and hose from portable tank connect. Would this do damage to anything to try? Back yard mechanic with a little knowledge(very little) just giving it a try.
Thanks

No it would not hurt to try and a leak there could cause issues. You can fix the connector where it leaks also. There are 2 little O rings in there that are $2 each at the dealer that can be relatively easily replaced and it makes the connector good to go again. Those connectors are $130 new (yes, $130!) so it's a good idea to put new O rings in it :)
