Again hello all, new to boating and probably asking a question that most may know. I'm looking at buying a 17-19' bowrider. Here in Maine there are quite a few for $2000 and under that are 1980's. My problem is worrying about having to replace the transom or floor. Quite possible to seem solid at the purchase and find out later its junk. This looks like a big project. If I bought a boat that was solid how can I keep it that way, pull up the carpet and apply resin? Might just buy aluminum, easier to replace those floors...right?

Agree with aluminum for boats that old..even those can have rotted transoms though.
Most boats that age either have rot or did at one time and somebody fixed it.
Usually the fix was putting in a new floor over rotten stringers..

Take the same style of boat, same year..
One glass...
One aluminum...

Both with rotten decks, waters been soaking under there for Lord knows how many years...

With a fiberglass boat..Oh maybe a month or 2 of really really hard work..

Aluminum? Heck it's possible to redeck one with a 3 day weekend!

Tins no Sin around here!:D

Marine surveys are great, but a little hard to justify IMHO on a $2000 boat. If you've got a boat with a solid floor and want to keep it that way, keep it as dry as possible by storing it indoors or keeping it covered. make sure the bilge is dry when you put 'er away.
