When it doesn't re-start, does it turn over and spin okay with the starter?

Is the fuel primer bulb firm, or is it possible the fuel is draining back to the tank when idle?

I your motor oil injected?

How are you checking for spark?

Can you borrow or purchase a DVA meter to check the ignition? Seems like you have bought quite a few parts already. Better to perform a test and determine which specific component is failed and perhaps save some money.

Re: Need Help to start Mercury 45 4cl.

Is it a "classic fifty" liek mid 80s? Coz if it is, I have that exact same problem, If I run her for 30mins/hour, and stop, she is a pig to get started again. I have read all sorts of explanations, even read somewhere that the fuel evaporated in the carb, therefore it requires additional priming.

I got around it this way. When you stop, run the motor dry of fuel. Then prime just one single pump, (not till the ball is hard) then it should start up, be sparing with the choke.

I feel for you, it's a total pain! I always carry a spare set of plugs, and in desperate times have changed these over. Then it starts no problem. It as if the engine when warm keeps drawing fuel in after it has been stopped. Man it's annoying. I have noticed if I leave the fuel line connected it will actually compress the ball, which is proof if is "sucking" the fuel up, and possibly causing to flood.

I would lay a fair amount of cash that it is flooding. Check the carb, give it a tap, make sure the float is returning. Whenever you stop running the motor when it is warm, and you intend to restart it, try disconnection the fuel line for that time. And do not prime it with the ball, just turn the key with the control box shifted in neutral to full throttle. Like I say, I feel for you. It's a pain.

And always carry those spare plugs, I know the cap is a pain to get on and off, but not as much as a pain as flagging someone down for a lift home. ;)

Good luck. Let me know if you have sucsess, very interested to know.
