Starter removal 1976 Evinrude 70 hp

I don't have a manual yet and I need to remove the starter to get it rebuilt. I can't get to the rear bolt to remove it. It looks like I might have to remove the carb housing. Any tricks to avoid this?

First, you need to confirm that your starter is broke. 3 out of 5 starters replaced weren't broke.

Please explain how you determined that the starter needs rebuild.

well I don't know for sure. but brand new battery and it takes a hit to the starter to get it to work and that doesn't work most of the time. An assumption I guess.
