Low RPM

I have Mercruiser 260 with Alpha on a Thompson Daytona 225. A few weeks all worked well. Recently I have not been able to get the boat to plane. I noticed that I can only get 3200 RPM. Other than this everything seems fine with the engine. No rattle no backfire, starts first time everytime. The throttle seems to be a little sticky. I am wondering if the sticking throttle may be my problem. Is it possible that it is not opening all the way.

Thanks in advance

Re: Low RPM

Look and find out if it is opening all the way. If it is go to the top of te page ad look in the adlt only sticky at the loss of WOT. That list WILL tell you what your problem is. DO them all and dont stop at one you find wrong could be a few of them causing it.

Re: Low RPM

If it does open all the way ,try a cylinder balance test.
loosen but do not remove the plug wires from the dist cap, start engine, remove 1 wire, check rpm drop ,replace wire and test another one.The one with no drop is the dead cylinder.

Re: Low RPM

Thanks alot guys.

I tried the easiest thing first and it worked. It appears I had a dirty fuel filter. Odd thing is that it was changed a couple month ago and has not had that much use. I hope this is not an indication of other problems, such as with the fuel tank.

thanks again.
