Ever actually read the package? This little bit surprised me from the 3 oz tube package:

Once opened, contents will begin to cure even if cap is replaced. Use all material within 48 hours.
Holy Cow! An $8.00 tube of sealant shot once opened?

Compare that to Boat Life Boat Seal. Still have a tube that is from 2003 and it hasn't hardened yet.

Just shows you how aggressive it is and why it's worth the money you pay for it.

Balderdash! I have a tube of 4200 that is well over a year old, come to think of it, over two years old. Just used some of it yesteday to fix a broken portable phone antenna cover. I did have to use a drill bit to get down thru the hardened stuff, but once done, the stuff squeezed out of the tube like normal.

It's just been sitting on my workbench and I have used it numerous times after picking out the hardened top of the tube.

I have had a tube of it (fast cure 4200) open for about 3 weeks now. As with silicone, I always fill the nozzle before storing. The contents of the nozzle hardens but the material in the tube stays uncured.

I wish I could find the $8 tube. It costs me $14

Thanks for the experiences guys. I hate to see money wasted. I like 3m products, and it just struck me odd that the tube was a one shot deal.

I'll just seal it up and hope for the best.

The label on my new tube of 5200...said the same thing!

But...it also says that it will last longer if stored in a cool, and dry, place.

Mine will sit behind the mustard...in the door of the refrigerator! :D

I have a tube of fast cure 5200 and reg 5200. Both have the same warning. The fast cure I have used 3-4 times now and just reopened it the other day. After digging thru the hard stuff it was fine. I picked mine up at lowes on clearance for $2.95 a tube. I'm sure next they'll cost a little more....

Just a couple suggestions on cured tipped tubes ..

1. Drill the hard stuff out of the tip.

2. I have several tubes in the draw that I have poked or sliced little holes ( starting in the back ) and squeezed out. You can use a stir stick or just poke your screws into it for use.

I buy it in the caulking tube style. I just let the pressure off the handle and stick a nail in the squirter end. I just pulled one out and used it last night. I last used it at least a month ago. 2 handle squeezes, a pop and then squirt. No problem.
